ENTERING A TEST

ELIGIBILITY
(Summarized from the Test Regulations)

The VJP (spring test) is the first test that a puppy will enter. Puppies born in January-September will be tested in the following spring, while puppies born in October-December will be tested in the year after that. For example, puppies born in January-September 2008 will be VJP-tested in the spring of 2009, while puppies born in October-December 2008 will be VJP-tested in the spring of 2010. This timeframe is the only opportunity for young dogs to be tested at this level. A dog can be handled no more than twice in a VJP, with the exception of participation in an international test. (VZPO § 4) A dog will be entered in the HZP in the fall immediately following its VJP. Again, a dog can be handled no more than twice in an HZP, with the exception of participation in an international test (e.g., the Armbruster or Hegewald). (VZPO § 4) A dog cannot be entered in the Utility Test — VGP — during the same calendar year that it was born, but can be entered at any age after that. A dog can be entered in the VGP no more than two times. Participation in an International Test is an exception. (VGPO § 5) The owner of any dog entered in a JGHV test must be a member of a JGHV-affiliated club, such as VDD or VCDKK. If you are not a member of VDD-Group Canada, please provide proof of membership in another VDD Group or JGHV-affiliated club. The handler of the dog must have in possession a valid hunting license (VZPO § 6, VGPO § 9 and § 11). Some exceptions may apply; please contact the Director of Testing if this is a concern. A handler may not handle more than two dogs at a given VJP, HZP, or VGP. (VZPO § 12, VGPO § 12)

Group Canada tests will be advertised in the club newsletter and on the website, with details regarding the test dates, location, entry fee, entry deadline and the name of the Test Coordinator. If the dates and locations of the Group Canada tests are not convenient for you, you may consider entering a test in the US club, VDD-Group North America. Dates and locations for their tests can be obtained the Director of Testing. Remember that VDD/GNA tests are often held earlier in the year and fill up very quickly, so a timely application is imperative. It is also important to note that Tracking at their VJP tests is evaluated by means of a rabbit or hare track rather than the pheasant track used in Canada. A completed test entry includes the following: A fully completed and signed original and one copy of the entry form, Formblatt 1. A photocopy of both sides of the dog's green Ahnentafel, with all entries up to date. A photocopy of the handler's hunting license. A cheque or money order for the amount of the entry fee — made out to VDD-Group Canada. The entry forms, photocopies of the Ahnentafel and hunting license, and the entry fee should be submitted to the Test Coordinator on or before the closing date for entries. Keep in mind that a dog will not be considered entered in the test until all of the above items have been provided, and that priority is given according to the date the completed entry is received. If more than one day of testing is scheduled for a VJP or HZP and you have a strong preference for running your dog on a particular day, please inform the Test Coordinator. We will accommodate your request if at all possible. About the test entry deadline: A great deal of planning goes into running a test — judges must be engaged, game must be reserved, meals must be planned, the details must be published in the newsletter, Test Programs must be prepared and mailed out, etc. Late or incomplete entries make those arrangements very difficult for the organizers; therefore, a late fee of $40 will be imposed for any entries submitted after the deadline. Early entries will be appreciated. We now have a significant level of interest from other VDD Groups and other JGHV-affiliated clubs to enter their dogs in our tests. Group Canada members will be given priority for entry in the tests up to the entry deadline. After that the test will be open to handlers from other Groups or Clubs and there may not be space available for late entries from Group Canada members. This policy will be strictly observed. You will receive notification from the Test Coordinator when your test entry has been received. If the test is full, a waiting list will be established; you will be notified if that is the case. Two to three weeks prior to the test you should receive a Test Program from the Test Coordinator. It will indicate the exact day on which you have been assigned to run and will give other information about where, when and how the test will be run. If you have questions prior to receiving the Test Program, contact the Test Coordinator. Please note that cheques for entry fees will not be deposited until two weeks before the test. Until that time you can withdraw without penalty. If having a cheque outstanding for a period of time concerns you, you may want to submit a money order instead. If something happens that will make it impossible for you to run your dog, please notify the Test Coordinator immediately. Timely notification can sometimes result in full or partial refund of entry fees, but more importantly, it may be possible for another dog from the waiting list to take the place of yours. When you go to the test, be certain to take your dog's original Ahnentafel (green pedigree document), its current rabies vaccination certificate (signed by a veterinarian), and proof that you (or whoever else is going to handle your dog in the test) have a hunting license. Your dog cannot be evaluated until these items have been handed over to the Test Coordinator. If for some reason you do not have a valid hunting license, contact the Test Coordinator for assistance; exceptions can be allowed in some cases.

THE ENTRY PROCEDURE

COMPLETING THE ENTRY FORM

The only acceptable entry form for a JGHV test is the official Formblatt 1 [version 2009-1 (German) or version 2009-1 (Bilingual)]. Entries submitted on previous versions of the form will no longer be accepted. The German version of Formblatt 1 can be found on the JGHV website, www.jghv.de, under Service > Formblätter. If you use this form, remember that it is formatted for European paper. To print it you will need to specify a conversion to A4 paper or print it at about 95% to get the full page. The bilingual version of Formblatt 1 can now be completed on computer. To save the form to your computer, right click on the link below, select SAVE TARGET AS, specify where on your computer you want to store the form and click SAVE. After you complete the form, you can save what you have entered on the form. Then when you enter your next test with this particular dog all you will need to do is update the information on the form. This form is formatted to print correctly on North American paper so you will not need to make any adjustments. Formblatt 1 - version 2009-1 (Bilingual) A set of detailed instructions was previously developed when all we had was the German form. It will probably still be useful to read through these instructions before completing the bilingual form in order to enter all of the information correctly. Detailed Instructions for Completing Formblatt 1 Because the entry form requires an original signature and because a completed entry includes copies of the Ahnentafel and hunting license as well as a cheque for the entry fee, an entry cannot be submitted via e-mail or fax. It must be sent or delievered to the Test Coordinator with the required documents. Entries must be postmarked on or before the entry deadline to avoid a late fee. Early submission of entries will be appreciated. Please note: With your signature on the entry form you agree (also on behalf of the handler, breeder or owner if they are other than you) that your data (name and address) and the data of the dog may be entered into the electronic system of JGHV and published in publically available media. If you require any further information or assistance, contact the Test Coordinator for the test you plan to enter or the Group Canada Director of Testing. IMPORTANT NOTE: The bilingual version of Formblatt 1 is a PDF file. This means that you MUST have Adobe Reader to open it. This program is available free of charge from the Adobe.com website. Clicking the icon below will prompt you to download the Adobe Reader software from the official Adobe website. Click only if you do not already have adobe Reader version 4.0 or later installed on your computer!
